IT’S NOT JUST BAKING THAT WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT, IT’S OUR COMMUNITIES TOO.
At Warburtons, people are at the heart of our business. Whether that’s our employees, our suppliers, our partners or our communities.
Since 1876, we have been passionate about supporting communities and families nationwide. Following on from our Families Matter programme, we launched the Warburtons Foundation in 2022 as a way to group together all of our community activities and set clear goals for what we want to achieve in our communities. The foundation aims to support families across Great Britain who are facing challenges by providing food education, product donations, and community initiatives.
Our Investment Targets
To achieve these ambitious targets, we will:
- Encourage our people to support the causes that are important to them through matched funding and payroll giving schemes
- Ensure our network of Community and Charity Champions are empowered to make decisions relating to local product and financial giving that meet the needs of their communities.
- Embed our Volunteering programme by increasing awareness and access for our colleagues
Financial Giving
We work with numerous organisations and support many people through our community programmes. We have a financial giving programme to support projects, activities and organisations that have charitable aims and will be of real direct benefit to families. We also offer product donations to support local community activities.
Product Donations
Food insecurity remains a pressing issue in the UK, with over 13% of households experiencing food poverty. Supporting food redistribution, local food banks, and affordable access to healthy staples like bread is one of the ways that we can help.
Wheat Education Programme
We build strong relationships with our farmers to ensure a consistent quality of wheat, as well as a reliable long-term supply. As part of this, we help to engage our farmers in community investment and volunteering, bringing the countryside to life for young people.
Our subsidised Farm Visits help to educate families and allows our wheat farmers to connect with their local communities, build stronger relationships and encourage people to think about the long-term future of farming. In 2021, we expanded our programme and now also deliver our wheat-focused ‘Farm in a Box’ to primary schools across the country.
Bake the Most of Life
We are passionate about supporting young people and helping them to get the best start in life. Working alongside teachers and experts, we’re creating quality classroom experiences that share our core values with the next generation. The programme offers free resources and is available for all schools to access, with a target of reaching 1.5 million children over three years.
Our curriculum-linked resources celebrate family and community, develop skills and ambition, empower children to take shared responsibility for their health and wellbeing and encourage young people to care for themselves and others.
