As a food business, we can really make a difference.
The climate crisis is everyone’s business. With the food system accounting for a significant chunk of greenhouse gases in the UK, we know we have a major role to play. We want to leave the planet in a better state than we found it.
We have committed to becoming a Net Zero business by 2050, but we are focused on the here and now. We are cracking on with the job—cutting emissions in our own operations and cleaning up our transport fleet. We’ve committed that all the electricity we buy is renewable, but we are going a step further by generating our own through wind and solar to build resilience.
We are also waging a war on waste. As a food manufacturer, food waste is a massive part of our strategy. We are incredibly proud to have sent zero food waste to landfill since 2015 across our own operations. Our priority is always to redistribute surplus product to community partners to help feed families. Anything that can’t be eaten is repurposed into animal feed, ensuring nothing is wasted.
But we aren’t stopping there. We are now setting our sights on becoming Zero Waste to Landfill across our entire operation, tackling packaging and operational waste with the same energy we apply to our food.

Case Studies
CASE STUDY: THE ELECTRIC AVENUE
With over 1,000 vehicles on the road every day, our transport footprint is a big piece of the puzzle. We are driving change by introducing electric trucks into our fleet—including 16-tonne electric rigid trucks—and switching our long-haul trunking fleet to Bio-CNG (compressed natural gas). This switch targets an 85% reduction in their carbon emissions, ensuring our loaves travel lighter.
CASE STUDY: POWERED BY NATURE
We are turning our sites into green energy hubs. We’ve installed solar panels at our Bristol and Enfield bakeries to capture the sun for our ovens, and in Bristol, we even have wind turbines spinning to generate clean power on-site. By 2030, we aim to reduce emissions in our own operations by 20%, and self-generation is key to getting there.
