    Wheat is perhaps our most important ingredient, and we are proud to have been working withhundreds of British farmers since our business began in 1876.

    You can’t bake great bread without great wheat. And you can’t grow great wheat without healthy soil. At Warburtons, we are intrinsically linked to the land. We contract grow more British quality milling wheat than any other branded food business in the UK, and we also work closely with farmers in Canada to ensure the perfect blend for our flour.

    Our mission is to work hand-in-glove with our farmers—both here and across the Atlantic—to support farming systems that protect and restore nature. We don’t see farmers as just suppliers; we see them as stewards of the land.

    We rely on relationships that last. Many of our farmers have been working with us for over 20 years. This trust allows us to collaborate on pilot projects that improve soil health, boost biodiversity, and manage water more effectively. This isn’t about imposing rules from a boardroom; it’s about listening to the experts in the field. By facilitating grower groups where farmers can share data and learn from one another, we are helping to future-proof our harvest.

    CASE STUDY: THE SADLER FAMILY

    Suzi Sadler is a third-generation farmer in Cambridgeshire who has grown wheat for us for over 30 years. Suzi is deeply committed to the ecosystem. By planting cover crops and reducing soil disturbance, she is improving water quality and bringing biodiversity back to her fields—proving commercial farming and nature can thrive side by side.

    We want children to know that bread starts in the ground, not the supermarket shelf. Through our ‘Farm in a Box’ programme and subsidised farm visits, we are taking children out of the classroom and into the fields to learn the journey from wheat seed to bakery shelf, inspiring the next generation of nature-lovers.
