OUR FAMILY BUSINESS
First established by Thomas and Ellen Warburton back in 1876, our family business has grown from a small grocery store selling homemade bread to the largest bakery brand in Britain.
Thomas and Ellen first opened their grocery shop in Bolton back in 1870, but it wasn’t until 1876 during a slump in the grocery market when Ellen baked started baking bread. Her first batch sold out in under an hour and within two weeks, the tiny shop in Bolton was renamed ‘Warburtons the Bakers’.
All these years on and Warburtons is now the largest bakery brand in Britain but still remains a private family-owned business, actively managed by the fifth generation of Warburtons Jonathan, Ross and Brett.
