As part of this year’s National Crumpet Week celebrations, the Warburtons Foundation and Morrisons have announced they are back with ‘Ask For Ellen’

With schools soon to close for October half-term, ourselves and Morrisons are once again teaming up to bring back ‘Ask for Ellen’ across all Morrisons Cafés.

As part of this year’s National Crumpet Week celebrations, from next week, everyone and anyone, both adults and children, can ‘Ask for Ellen’ at any Morrisons Café to receive two toasted crumpets, with butter and jam for free – no questions asked. The offer will be available all day, in any of Morrisons 395 Cafés from 23rd October to 5th November, while stock lasts.

The initiative, which aims to give a little support to families throughout the holiday period, is back following its success during the school summer holidays – which saw 200,000 portions of ‘Ask for Ellen’ crumpets enjoyed by families across the UK.
Research from the Warburtons Foundation revealed that 58% of parents of school aged children deal with added financial pressures over the holidays – contending with additional childcare costs juggling work and activities for kids. What’s more, according to the Money and Pensions Service, around a quarter of UK adults have less than £100 in their savings account, leaving them with little to cover additional costs incurred during holiday periods.

The initiative is named after our founder, Ellen Warburton. We have been passionate about supporting charities since the business was established in 1876 and continue to do so today, through the Warburtons Foundation. The Foundation is committed to supporting families and communities across the UK. The Foundation has donated over 1 million bakery products to schools and food banks since October 2022 with ambition to reach 1.25 million products by September 2023.

Chris Strong, Morrisons Café Buying Manager, said: “We know how grateful our customers were for our extra support this past summer with our Ask for Ellen initiative and we are thrilled to announce we are partnering again with Warburtons this half term. We’ll be offering customers two toasted crumpets, with butter and jam when they visit a Morrisons café and Ask for Ellen, which we hope will help brighten their day.”

Jonathan Warburton, Chairman of Warburtons, commented: “We had an overwhelmingly positive response to our Ask for Ellen initiative this summer and surpassed our target by giving out 200,000 portions of crumpets nationwide. We know many households are still feeling the squeeze due to the cost of living crisis which is why we wanted to team up again with Morrisons to offer a little support to families throughout the break.”

In addition, Morrisons continues to provide its Kids Eat Free promotion all day, everyday meaning families can receive a free kids meal when purchasing an adult meal costing £4.50 or more.
