Why is Bread a Healthy Choice?

Bread contains many of the nutrients or building blocks required for normal growth and development and good health. Bread may be a 'basic' food but it can play an important part in a healthy, balanced diet.

800g White Loaf: Carbohydrates 45%, Protein 10%, Water 38%, Fat 2%, Fibre 3%, Vitamins and Minerals 2%

Energy - bread provides fuel for our bodies. 

High fibre - Bread, especially wholemeal, is an important source of dietary fibre. Four slices of Warburtons 800g Wholemeal provides over 40% of an adult’s daily requirement (24g) of fibre.

Protein - bread is a low fat source of protein

Low fat - most bread is low in fat and all bread is low in saturated fats

Low sugar - most bread is low is sugar

Calcium - white bread is fortified with calcium

Vitamins - white bread is fortified with iron, thiamine and niacin. Wholemeal bread contains folic acid
