| Fat is important for normal growth and development, cell
structure and fat soluble vitamins. Fat is found in butter, margarine, spreads,
oils, oily fish, meat, nuts and seeds. However, too much fat in the diet can contribute
to obesity and increase the risk of certain diseases such as heart disease. National
guidelines recommend that no more than about one third of our energy (calorie)
intake should be from fat sources. Nutrition experts suggest that the average
daily fat recommendation for a man is 90g and a woman is 70g. It’s
recommended that the majority of this fat be from polyunsaturates, which come
from vegetable sources such as sunflower, corn and safflower oil and monounsaturates
such as olive oil and rapeseed oil. It is also important to include some essential
fatty acids in the diet as these cannot be made in the body. These can be found
in oily fish such as salmon, sardines and mackerel, green vegetables, seeds and
nuts.
Most bread is low in fat and all Warburtons bread is low in saturated fat. A little fat is needed in bread making to
help keep bread fresh. It also improves the taste and texture of bread. At Warburtons
we only use vegetable oils, and in as small amounts as necessary for taste and
texture. We don't use hydrogenated fats. Our
Crumpets have a maximum of 1% fat. For
