Afterschool Bites

Ingredients:

Slice the Rolls into bite-sized slices – like slicing a baguette. Add different toppings to each, such as ham, tomato and tuna. Grate the two differently coloured cheeses and mix them together in a bowl. Sprinkle the cheese over the top of the bite-sized treats, and toast them lightly under the grill until the cheese has melted.

Tip: Serve with fruit juice or milk for an even healthier snack.

Sailing Sandwiches

Ingredients:

  • Any Warburtons Rolls
  • Peanut butter, tuna mayonnaise or other ‘sticky’ ingredients
  • 1 banana if using peanut butter or sweetcorn if using tuna
  • Sliced cheddar cheese

Slice the Warburtons Sub Sandwich Roll in half, and use a ‘sticky’ ingredient, such as peanut butter or tuna mayonnaise to cover the ‘middle’ section of the boat. Then use another ingredient, such as banana or sweetcorn, to create a ‘rim’ around the outside of the boat.

You could use three different ingredients in this way to create a more colourful effect. Finally, make a sail for the sailing ship by putting a cocktail stick through some sliced cheddar cheese and standing it in the middle of the boat.

Tip: For party food, use crisps to give a ‘wave’ effect, and use leftover pieces of cheese to make shark fins.

Sandwich Express

Ingredients:

  • Any Warburtons Rolls
  • Combination of ‘child-friendly’ ingredients, such as grated cheese, ham, tuna, sweetcorn and lettuce
  • Cucumber strips
  • Carrot strips
  • Vegetables for decoration

Make up four sandwiches using Warburtons Sub Sandwich Rolls and a combination of ‘child-friendly’ ingredients. Cut each sub roll into three equally sized pieces, chopping the ends off all but one to leave a square edge. This will leave eleven equally sizes ‘carriages’, and a rounded front ‘engine’.

Lay a ‘track’ using long cucumber strips and carrot sticks. Place the sandwiches along the track, with the rounded engine at the front. Finally, decorate with vegetables.

Tip: Mix and match different fillings – that way, there is sure to be at least one sandwich that each child will like.

  • ½ x 185g can of tuna steak in brine, drained
  • 1-2 15ml spoons / tbsps of mayonnaise
  • 40g / 1.5oz Cheddar cheese – grated

Scary Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • Warburtons Toastie bread
  • Egg mayonnaise (or a healthy filling of your choice)
  • Butter
  • Sultanas for decoration
Scary Sandwich

Take a piece of card and draw a scary sandwich template in the shape of a ghost. Remember, the simpler the design is, the easier it will be to create.

Place the template on top of double slices of Warburtons Toastie bread. Children must ask an adult for help when cutting out the scary shape. Carefully cut around the template using a pair of kitchen scissors or an appropriate knife.

Spread a thin layer of butter onto the bread. Add a healthy filling of your choice. A helpful hint is that a moist filling, such as egg mayonnaise, will hold the sandwich together well. Decorate the top of the ghost sandwich using sultanas for the ghost's eyes to complete the scary effect.

Finally, enjoy eating your Scary Sandwich.
