Bolton's best known family bakers has recognised the contribution of one its longest-serving suppliers at a conference and awards ceremony at the Reebok stadium, held recently

William Nelstrop and Co in Stockport were one of five award winners in a ceremony themed to 'inspire' and to celebrate the partnership culture which has seen Warburtons rise to the number two fmcg brand in the country. The flour millers of Stockport and the bakers of Bolton have enjoyed a trading relationship lasting over five decades and they still have the same person handling the Warburtons business, Chairman, Conrad Nelstop, who is now 70 years old. Presenting a Special Commendation Award to Conrad, Warburtons Executive Director Brett Warburton commented, 'We have a great working relationship with Nelstrops, which has prospered over many years not least because we both understand what it takes to build family businesses. 'There is nothing Conrad does not know about customer service - his company is undoubtedly best in class - and reflects our own passion for quality. We look forward to another 50 years of working together.' The bi-annual supplier event is an opportunity for Warburtons to bring suppliers together, reflect on great performances and share the company's goals for the future. Brett Warburton added, 'We are very lucky to have many first class suppliers, who consistently make outstanding contributions to the ongoing growth and development of the business. This event is designed to inform and motivate and help us plan for the future together.' Four other awards were made for excellence in packaging, transportation, raw materials & engineering and they went to businesses as far afield as Sunderland in Tyne and Wear and Brentford In Essex. The packaging award was won by EBR/Interflex Sunderland for offering a consistently high level of service through challenging times. Packaging Manager Cath Greenhalgh said, 'They are always honest no matter how difficult the situation and have delivered a great service all year.' Mark Sutcliffe, Warburtons National Transport Manager picked DAF Trucks/Lancashire DAF in Preston as worthy winners of the transport award. 'DAF Trucks have always offered a professional and competent service. Their people respond in a timely manner and are innovative and forward thinking in everything they do.' The Raw Materials award was presented by Purchasing Director Bob Beard who selected Brentwood-based ADM Milling for the 2008 accolade. He said, 'ADM continue to push the boundaries of strategic planning and offer an excellent service.' Newsmith Stainless Ltd from West Yorkshire picked up the Engineering award for being proactive, delivering projects on time, on budget and to a high standard. 'It is no surprise that we have a long-standing relationship with them,' said Trevor Oakley, Engineering Services Director, who presented the award.
