Background Information
All the statistical
information on the Warburtons website has been sourced from
government statistics which are available on their websites. The
illustrations of a 'healthy diet' plate and pyramid have also
been developed to support teaching and learning activities
outlined in the QCA schemes of work and other government
information sites. The Department of Health site for healthy
living campaigns including schools has several 'fun' children's
areas and background information aimed at teachers - Wired for Health. It includes a useful illustration of the balanced diet based on a
plate. Other useful resources may be found on the British
Nutrition Foundation and Health Education Board for Scotland.
Your local health
authority (AHA) may provide factsheets and other sources of advice
on healthy eating. A school nurse may be prepared to discuss
healthy eating with the class to support these activities.
Always seek advice or
refer to local health professionals if you have any concerns over
children's health or dietary needs.
FOOD SAFETY!
- Children should not be allowed to taste food during
classroom experiments unless strict hygiene has been observed. Be
aware of conditions which children may suffer from (eg Coeliac,
gluten-free diet, nut or other allergy).
