HACCP

Warburtons policy towards HACCP?
HACCP is an acronym for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points. HACCP was pioneered by the Pillsbury Co. which had been introduced to supply food for the US space programme in the early 1960’s. The last thing the NASA wanted was an astronaut in space with food poisoning or injury due to contamination of food.

HACCP is a preventive system. All potential food hazards (chemical, microbiological and physical) are identified and those considered critical to food safety (the critical control points of CCP’S) are determined. Control measures are put in place to eliminate the hazards or at least reduce the hazards to a safe level. Other hazards are controlled in the prerequisite system. Included is the control of gas, hard plastic, wood, lubricant, hygiene etc. These controls form part of the HACCP system and ensure that food supplied to our customers is safe and wholesome. This is in line with the Food Safety Act (General Food Hygiene) 1995 regulations.

What is ISO 9001:2000?
ISO 9001:2000 is an internationally recognised quality management standard that organisations adopt to ensure the maintenance of consistent quality standards.

How does it work?
Warburtons is required to meet the requirements documented in the ISO standard and also includes its own high standards within the system. Written procedures, excellent staff training, audits of every aspect of the process and documented record keeping ensures that standards at Warburtons are consistently high.

ISO and HACCP
ISO 9001:2000 is an internationally recognised standard to ensure that businesses operate effective quality management systems. The HACCP systems is incorporated into the ISO system at Warburtons and both systems are regularly audited both internally and externally to ensure standards are being maintained.

Warburtons Quality
Warburtons is, and always has been, dedicated to baking superior products by using carefully selected raw materials. The policy is supported and managed by the regular inspection of our products and by evaluation of Warburtons products against our major competitors. Softness, taste, flavour, freshness and colour are important features. These are all monitored closely on a daily basis at each of our bakeries. All our bakeries participate in an annual competition to determine who has the highest standards, the winner being awarded the coveted trophy.
