Helps to control Kids' hunger

Research has shown that Warburtons All in One helps control kids' hunger as part of a low GI breakfast, helping them to feel fuller for longer.

Warburtons have recently carried out a study with Oxford Brookes University to understand the benefits of All in One bread for children. The findings have shown that children who ate a low GI breakfast comprising of All in One with a low sugar jam and a glass of orange juice then went on to eat less at lunchtime, compared to when the same children ate a high GI breakfast.

Not only that, but because All in One is a low GI loaf it provides a source of longer lasting energy.

What is GI?

The number of obese children has doubled since 1982, and this figure is expected to continue to rise. In fact, on current forecasts, more than half of Britain's kids will be classified as obese by the year 2020. (BBC News website, 14th January 2005)

And the two main causes are: diets high in sugar, salt and fat and low in fruit, vegetables and fibre; and a lack of exercise.

Glycemic Index (GI) is a measure of the rate at which foods that contain carbohydrate affect blood sugar levels. Low GI foods give a slower release of energy, which means that you don’t need to take energy in as quickly, helping to cut the temptation of snacking on foods which give 'short burst' short-lived energy such as sugary foods and drinks.

All in One can help you make a positive step to help your family's health. That's because it's classified as a food with a LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX.

How the GI Scale Works

The Glycemic Index works on a scale of 1-100:

  • 100 being Glucose
  • High GI is over 70 (e.g. white rice, baguettes)
  • Medium GI is 55-70 (e.g. brown rice)
  • Low GI is under 55 (e.g. wholegrain rye bread)

All in One falls into the 'low GI' category, with an index of 49.

What this means is that, in comparison to regular white bread, All in One delivers a slower energy release. This gap is even more pronounced when compared to Glucose, which is used to represent the effect of fizzy drinks and high sugar snacks.

Expert nutritionist Sian Porter Expert nutritionist Sian Porter explains the benefits:

"What happens with sugar-rich foods is that they raise our blood sugar levels quickly and we get an energy rush, but an hour or so later there's a crash. Our body then wants another blood sugar boost, and so craves even more energy.

"Low GI foods such as All in One help to stabilise blood sugar levels, keeping them raised at an appropriate level for longer therefore the body doesn't crave or need this sugar rush.

"The long-term impact of a balanced diet is healthier kids with plenty of energy to enjoy life."

This graph shows that All In One gives longer lasting energy than normal white bread. When compared to sugary products like chocolate or coke
